Ensuring Supplier Integrity in Ontario
We are committed to addressing the concerns raised by residents across the province regarding the Notice of Security Interests (NOSI) registered on property titles.
The Impact of Notice of Security Interests:
We have received numerous complaints from residents, especially those in Markham-Unionville, about the significant impact of these liens on property transactions. These security interests are registered on the title of a property when homeowners contract with companies for rented equipment such as water softeners, water heaters, furnaces, or air conditioners.
Our Motion for Change:
To tackle this issue, our motion titled “Ensuring Supplier Integrity” has successfully passed the House. This motion calls upon the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery to thoroughly investigate the Notice of Security Interests, with a specific focus on direct agreements for certain HVAC goods.
Prominent Disclosure and Penalties:
As part of our efforts to enhance transparency, we aim to explore the feasibility of requiring suppliers to prominently disclose the amount of security interests in these direct agreements. This would empower consumers with vital information and prevent unexpected financial burdens during property transactions. Additionally, penalties may be imposed on suppliers who fail to comply with this requirement, ensuring accountability.
Keeping You Informed:
We are dedicated to keeping you updated on the progress made in our pursuit of a more transparent and secure environment for Ontarians. Your insights and experiences related to this matter are invaluable to us, so please don’t hesitate to share them with us.
Together, we can work towards a future where consumers are protected, and supplier integrity is ensured throughout Ontario.
